You have tried every workout method, every diet and every holiday quick fix. Yoga, HIIT, Pilates, you have done it. You have put yourself under pressure to hit a holiday goal, or a social engagement, copied what the fittest girl on your social media says she does, yet you have never quite got where you want to be? Never quite go the results you are after?
We are starting to realise that there is no secret quick fix or overnight pill, or method that works alone, so that leaves a big question mark right? what is the secret to being in your best shape if it isn’t quick – how do we do it? It unravels even more questions and I guess even more answers.
What about if we looked at it from a completely different perspective? One that involves no numbers, no rules, no rights or wrongs, just purely tuning in to you.
SLOW + STEADY
Slow and steady really does win the race when it comes to your results in the gym. As cliché as it may sound, results happen over a long period of time, but when they do they last and they feel so much better. The moment you let your mind let go of time and seeing results quickly, you allow your body the time it needs to change. If you are seeing quick results it is likely that you are rushing your journey with a too low calorie deficit – therefore the results won’t stay there long.
It really isn’t that complex. Simple changes make a big difference. You don’t need to cut down hugely on your calories, or up your training silly amounts. Chances are you are already spot on with that side of things. People often make the mistake of overhauling their diet in a big way but simple changes like smaller portions, cutting out sugar and eating intuitively can make a difference.
Intuition is the key. The secret ingredient. Spend more time asking your body questions and listening to it. If you aren’t seeing results in your training or always getting injured, you could be overworked. Giving yourself that time of rest will absolutely increase the way you work and the results you get when you do get back into the swing of things. Being intuitive will also help your relationship with your food. If you start listening to when you are hungry/when you are full you will change the way you eat. Your body knows what it wants and needs, let it tell you and honour it by listening to it.
TRAINING METHODS DON’T MATTER
Many different coaches will tell you different training approaches have better results than others. The simple rule is that as long as you are moving, your body will adapt. As long as you are eating well and training, it really doesn’t matter how you are training. Don’t get bogged down with whether HIIT, strength, cardio, Pilates or yoga is the best way and just move in a way you enjoy. Some people like to keep it consistent, others like to add variety. Do whatever works for you.
Your mindset is the key to your results. As long as you are working from a place of anger, aggression and hate towards your body – you will never get the results you were after. You will never feel the way you want to. Work on your mind as much as you work in the gym and you will get the results. Ask yourself what feels good, what you enjoy, what you are striving for and your results will finally be what you have been chasing.
