The first Chakra, resides at the base of the spine and is all about our foundations. In all aspects of life, everything we build upon starts with a solid, supportive foundation with strong roots. This is our base to grow from and feel safe and is often identified with our basic survival needs and rights, such as food, water, shelter and safety as well as our emotional needs. When these are all met, then we tend to worry less about the little things, so tapping into our foundations and support, allows us to build more and feel grounded.
HOW TO TELL WHEN YOUR ROOT CHAKRA IS BLOCKED:
When your Root Chakra is blocked, symptoms can manifest themselves both physically and mentally. We can feel unsafe and out of touch which causes a disconnection from our bodies and can lead to anxiety and feeling overwhelmed with stressful situations. Physically, blockages in the first chakra can lead to problems in the colon, with the bladder and issues with the legs, feet and lower back. In men, problems in the prostate may occur.
HOW TO BALANCE YOUR ROOT CHAKRA:
When Muladhara (root chakra) is in balance, we feel grounded, calm and safe. Here are some ways you can balance your Root Chakra:
•Go barefoot and connect with your feet and the earth. There’s something magical about taking your shoes off and walking barefoot in the grass or sand, so get out and pay attention to every step you take. Even rubbing your feet or rolling them out with a tennis ball can help the connection if you don’t fancy going barefoot.
•Anchor yourself in your environment. How you feel in your immediate surroundings, from your home to your relationships is key to feeling safe. Put things in your surroundings that make you feel safe and grounded.
•Surround yourself in the colour red which will subliminally make you feel safe.
•Cook! The act of cooking yourself a nourishing meal allows you to instantly tick off the worries of survival. Take time to eat slowly in a loving environment and share the experience with loved ones. Eat red foods like apples, beetroot and tomatoes and choose vegetables from the ground like potatoes and carrots.
•Get moving. Even if it’s a simple walk, but feel connected to the ground and your body.
