We know many of you are freelancers, and if you’re lucky enough to have the luxury of working from home you take it- why not right? A full fridge at your service, cups of tea on tap, and few distractions. Win! But sometimes the pitfalls of having no one around means you become chained to your laptop, slogging away for hours, meaning you can wind up feeling pretty
depleted. This definitely doesn’t have to be the case though- a few simple lifestyle, nutrition tweaks compounded with a little movement can be just the ticket to get you feeling uplifted and energised throughout the day.
PROTEIN WITH EVERY MEAL
Eat around the clock and make sure it’s with protein. Eating every 4 hours will help to stop blood glucose from dropping which is the main reason we experience energy slumps. If you focus the meal on protein it will fill you up rather than having a crash later if it’s just a carbohydrate meal. Good choices are eggs for breakfast, salmon for lunch and quinoa salad for dinner. etc
GO GREEN (TEA)
Swap caffeine for green tea. Whilst caffeine does give you a boost too much can lead to anxiety and panic attacks. Swap your usually coffee or tea for green tea which contains only 1mg of caffeine per cup. It will give you a slight lift without a massive drop and it’s high in antioxidants.
If you have a juicer at home or can pop out to your local juice joint then a ginger shot (mixed with apple juice) is a fantastic natural energy booster!
SAY HELLO TO SPIRULINA
Adding some spirulina powder to your morning breakfast smoothie will work wonders in terms of your energy and concentration. It is a powerhouse of nutrients. Namely vitamin B12, B6 and magnesium all of which are co factors for ATP (adenosine triphosphate) your body’s energy molecule.
STRETCH THE LEGS
Go for a short walk. Getting up and moving around or going for a walk around the block or to the park and back will literally create energy in the body. It generates something called piezoelectricity which is an electrical charge that accumulates in response to movement.
