Your skin and hair can suffer quickly when the temperatures drop so I want to share a few tips of mine to help with the transition into the colder season…
1. CHOOSE YOUR CLEANSER WISELY
Use a gentle and non-stripping face cleanser, such as our Blue Mint Facial Cleansing Powder, since skin irritation can increase along with dryness in colder weather. You might also want to consider using your cleanser only once a day, and just splash your face in the morning with warm water.
2. LAYER UP!
Don’t be afraid to use heavier, oil based serums, even if your skin is on the oily side. Contrary to belief, using the right oils (non comedogenic blends only, such as our award-winning Super Serum, which gets rave reviews) will help your skin balance its sebum production. Tip: Apply a little more than you usually would and leave the serum to ‘sit’ on your skin for a little while, before gently massaging it in.
3. HYDRATION IS KEY
You’ve heard it a million times but staying hydrated, even, or especially, in the depths of winter is key for a glowing healthy complexion and healthy and strong hair. Mix it up by infusing water with fresh herbs and fruit slices, brew some invigorating tea and have warming soup for lunch. (If you want to take hydration to the next level invest in a juicer and make drinking mineral rich celery and cucumber juice a daily habit for a multitude of benefits).
4. MORE MASKS
Hair is much more likely to become brittle, dull and dry in winter too, so treat it to a mask at least once a week to keep it looking shiny and smooth. My personal fave is our award-winning Hair Treatment, it’s the product I founded the brand with, and it’s a truly hard-working hair saviour made with four of the most nourishing oils available.
5. IT’S AN INSIDE-OUT JOB
Feed your skin and hair from the inside out. Foods that come to mind are nuts & seeds, avocado, leafy greens. All contain a host of skin loving nutrients such vitamin E, omega 3’s and zinc amongst others.
6. A BODY BRUSHING BOOST
Start dry body brushing. It boosts your blood circulation, stimulates your lymphatic flow and helps you to warm up. Besides, it has an exfoliating effect and is a great tool for keeping skin looking healthy.
