Whether efficiency is your middle name or you’re prone to the odd bit of procrastination (procrasti-baking is a legit struggle of ours), we could all do with a few extra tips and tricks to increase productivity on the daily. As ALT/ HEALTHY grows, so does our every day to-do list. We’re all for working hard and playing hard, so that means making every minute count. Want to squeeze the most out of your day without losing the plot? Try incorporating a few of the below into next week and watch your productivity levels fly.
- TAKE REGULAR BREAKS
If office life has taught us anything, it’s that chaining ourselves to our desks from 9-5 is NOT the way to get everything done. We were not made to stare at our screens for more than 45 minutes to an hour at a time- anyone who’s attempted more than this can attest to the pounding headaches and brain fog. By giving yourself regular 15 minute breaks to grab a cuppa, take a walk around the block or meditate- yes meditate!- you’ll reduce stress levels and give yourself time to get out of the black hole of work we all too often find ourselves in. How many of us have had our best ideas in the shower or during a stroll? This is because we’ve actually allowed our brain to actually rest. The best ideas often bloom when we ease off the pedal and remove any additional pressure or expectation. Next time you’re feel like you’ve hit a wall, simply stop. Go get some fresh air, breathe it out and reset.
- CLEAN GREEN CAFFEINE
While it’s all too common to reach for an extra strong cup of joe when we’ve got a mountain of work, coffee makes many of us feel jittery, anxious and eventually we crash. Though we might enjoy a short burst of productivity where we feel on top of the world, this tends to be short-lived, meaning that we don’t get the most out of our day. Instead of a double americano, we’ve been reaching for our greener pal matcha. It contains the amino-acid L-theanine which holds the key to that amazing post-matcha buzz and feeling of alertness. We experience the same kind of focus and concentration brought on by coffee, but for a more sustained period of time without spiking anxiety and suffering from that all-too-familiar crash. Keen on the green? We can’t stop by our local Wholefoods or Planet Organic without stocking up on Matcha Now. Having suffered from uneasiness and anxiety brought on by coffee, founder Janine wanted to show people that
you don’t need to ‘keep drinking something that aggravates your disposition’.

- THE POWER OF ‘NO’
As the certified go-getter we know you to be, it’s totally understandable how difficult it can be to just say no. Whether it’s a meeting, an event or another project, we all want to do it all. But more often than not, saying no is the best thing we can do for ourselves and our productivity levels in the long run. The mere word can be the most difficult thing to say for most people, but we urge you to try it. It’s pretty damn empowering! Saying no to things when we know we’re at capacity can be scary, as we all fear losing out on opportunities. Nonetheless we strongly believe that what’s meant to be is meant to be. If that ‘dream’ piece of work or an engagement comes up, saying no can be hard even if we’re already swamped. We get it. But trying to spin a million plates at once often leads to a bunch of broken ones on the floor. Instead of spreading yourself too thinly over multiple projects, why not try investing your full energy into a few things and give them your ALL.
- PUT DOWN THE PHONE
You didn’t think we’d write a piece on increasing productivity without telling you to put your phone away now did you? It’s a bit of advice we hear ime and time again- and for good reason. Whether you leave it at the bottom of your bag or on the other side of the room, willpower is key. We’ve found switching off our notifications and popping it on silent helps too- that way we’re less distracted by the constant flashing and aren’t so tempted to just have one little peek. The Instagram vortex is all too real folks.
