Jo Stroud, of Mantra Jewellery, is a firm believer in using mantras to change your mindset.
I am a strong believer in the power of words to change our mood and our mindset. Phrases that resonate with us can help bring our minds back to a more positive and resolute position, when we start to feel negative or overwhelmed.”
Jo’s tips for choosing and using a mantra are:
1 THE POWER OF POSITIVITY
Mantra should always be phrased in the positive – to encourage you to be your best self, not to criticise you for being your worst
2 ANYTHING GOES
They can be a phrase you have read, advice someone gave you, or a sentence you create
3 SHORT + SWEET
Come up with a short sentence that you can remember, that acts as a prompt, reminder or instruction to yourself, to behave in a particular way, think in a particular way, or change something about yourself.
4 CONSISTENCY IS KEY
Say your mantra to yourself first thing in the morning, to set your intention for the day. Repeat it at various times through the day, when your energy or positivity start to flag. Say it to yourself a few times when you face a challenging situation.
I find I need a visible reminder somewhere of my mantra, that I catch sight of through the day. So, find a means of doing that. I wear mine on a necklace, but you could write it on a postcard, post-it note or screensaver, so you see it through the day.”
Some of Jo’s favourites:
Be brave every day
Be still, be calm, be mindful
Stay in the present
If it doesn’t challenge me, it doesn’t change me
Fill the world with sunshine
When life pulls you back, aim forwards
I am enough
