Eggs- Love them in every possible form, dippy eggs and soldiers, omelettes, poached eggs, scrambled – breakfast lunch or dinner, we are self-confessed eggies. Has anyone else ruined their relationship with eggs in recent years by cutting down the amount of yolk you keep when preparing eggs with a hope to avoid high cholesterol and bad fats? We fell victim to that nasty rumour that demonized eggs and made us through the egg yolk in the bin. Well it’s your lucky day – no more yolk throwing you can have that yellow beauty back.
We are finally learning that The real threat to high cholesterol is saturated and trans fats, not dietary cholesterol. Eggs help strengthen the thyroid, which is often weak in people with food intolerances, candida and IBS. Eggs also have roughly 186 miligrams of cholesterol in and believe it or not, this cholestoral is good fat. The Yolk also contains Lecithin, which aids in breaking down fats – ideal for those of us who struggle to break down fatty foods.
Like all things, no good thing comes without a big but…Although eggs are super healthy and give you bundles of energy and good fats, they are a very concentrated, contracting food and in turn, may be hard for the body to digest. Undigested proteins become highly toxic in your digestive tract leading to a bundle of nasty symptoms such as bloating. We found it best to eat them midday when the body has plenty of energy and time to digest them. This way I avoid bloating, hiccups and that general feeling like your food is all sitting at the top of your chest.
It is a known fact that when we wake up in the morning our bodies are dehydtrated and acidic. We need to ensure we focus on hydrating and alkalizing our bodies to set us up for our day ahead. If you have extremely active mornings then you should be fine to eat them earlier, however the Body Ecology Diet advises that 11 – 6pm is the best time, similar to other protein foods.
Due to their acidic nature, another tip to aid digestion is to combine eggs with lots of alkaline veggies. This balance will greatly enhance digestion and ensure those eggys don’t start getting all stuck and gross in your digestive system!
Happy egg eating 🙂
